Filed under: Food & Drink |

Honey RumThis Spanish alcohol is one of the Islands’ signature products for production and consumption. Honey rum should have an alcolhol content between 20 and 30%, as specified by the local government and the colour of the drink should be from a golden hue to a deep mahogony, clear and bright. You should detect aromas of caramel, honey and traces of rum with vegetable extracts. It tastes very sweet and soft on the palate.

History

Honey rum has a long yet unknown history in the Canary Islands. Initially it was prepared in homes and small, family-run bars but gradually production companies began incorporating traditional techniques and practises into their production. By doing this they ensured there was a strong hpney rum industry on the Isles whilst also maintaining quality of the home-made product.
