The Loro Parque, based in Puerto de La Cruz, Tenerife, is to develop a large aquarium in Gran Canaria, specifically in the Puerto de la Luz harbour in the capital of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. This news has been announced by the city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in a statement released recently.

This new “Grand Aquarium”, of around 10,000 square meters, is to go ahead after the joint approval by the City and the Las Palmas Port Authority. According to the authorities, this new project will boost cruise passenger arrivals in the area and will become an attraction residents of the island as well as tourists. The project implementation will take place after the summer season once the studies and designs have been completed. This project will be developed in parallel, but independently, of efforts by Loro Parque to create a theme park in the south of Gran Canaria.
